Governance of the Go Shine Church of England Federation

Terms of Reference

Register of Information

The following composition of the federation Governing Body has been agreed with London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS):

  • The Executive Headteacher

  • Two parent governors elected by parents from across all the schools;

  • One staff governor elected by staff from across all the schools;

  • One governor nominated by the local authority; and

  • Eight foundation governors:

  • 3 appointed by London Diocesan Board for Schools;

  • 2 appointed by Camden Deanery Synod;

  • 2 appointed by Westminster, Paddington Deanery Synod; and

  • 1 appointed by Westminster, St Margaret’s Deanery Synod.

This structure is established in an Instrument of Government, which is legally made jointly by Camden Council and Westminster Council, who also jointly nominate the Local Authority Governor. This approach recognises the desire of both Councils to retain a close relationship with the Federation.

The Federation Governing Body has legal responsibility for all schools within the federation. The focus when seeking Governors (whether for foundation appointments or via parent or staff nomination) is to secure individuals with the capacity to undertake the role, a commitment to the federation as a whole and all of the children that it serves, and for the Governing Body collectively to have an appropriate breadth of skills and experience.

There is a Link Governor for each school, who is a foundation governor. The link governor sits on the Local Advisory Board (LAB) for the school.

Local Advisory Boards

A Local Advisory Board (LAB) has been established for each school, which includes elected parents and staff as well as appointments from the Parochial Church Council (PCC) with the school’s church parish, including the incumbent clergy. The LAB is a stakeholder advisory group.

Please visit each school’s website to find out more about the Local Advisory Board.
